Bio

Mike began his career at BBDO Detroit Advertising in 1992, leading a project  to develop a sustainability marketing strategy for Chrysler Motors. Over the course of fifteen years with BBDO, Mike created some of the industry’s most memorable advertising and was eventually promoted to EVP Head of Strategy; making him the youngest EVP at BBDO.

Post-Obama inauguration, Mike was compelled to join a movement in Michigan politics. Mike was appointed the Digital Strategy Director for Michigan’s Lieutenant Governor who was the presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2010 gubernatorial election. Mike was tasked with building a grassroots organization through digital and social media. Mike also consulted on key strategic and communication issues and was the Creative Director for the website, Facebook page, and all online/print advertising.

In 2010, Mike returned to advertising to lead Leo Burnett Detroit’s Strategy and Analytics department, supporting General Motors, The Detroit Institute of Arts, The NCAA, and The United Way of Southeastern Michigan. Mike led the development of award-winning work and helped Buick become the fastest growing luxury car brand in America. Mike also led the winning business pitches for The DIA and The NCAA.

Mike brings an unconventional background to marketing. A native Westside Detroiter, Mike grew up in a uniquely urban and diverse community where creativity and ingenuity were as routine as the daily paper. Mike’s creativity and oftentimes transformative ideas are directly influenced by his upbringing and real-world observation that different voices and perspectives lead to bigger and better ideas.

Mike currently works for the University of Michigan-Flint leading the University’s re-branding effort.

Mike studied Environmental Science at the University of Michigan in Dearborn, specializing in ecology and biodiversity (with a minor in Marketing).

Mike’s hobbies and interests include Detroit, culture, nature, music, sports, and civic engagement.
